Do I need a medical referral to receive treatment from Dr. Desmond?
A doctor’s referral is not required. We are a private clinic so you can book your appointment when you are ready. No long waiting lists.
Are there effects or risks involved with treatment?
Patients should be aware that the healing process may make them require more sleep, or some lifestyle changes to support the detoxification process and restorative effects stimulated by the treatments. We rely on patient cooperation with the recommendations given during the treatment. Patients should understand/informed that, as in all health care, in the practice of TCM there are some minor risks, and/or side effects, albeit rare, to treatment, including but not limited to: soreness, slight dizziness, bruising, numbness or tingling near the needling sites that may last a few days, and in rare cases, dizziness or fainting. Effects are dependent on whether a condition is acute, or chronic, or multi-faceted. We recommend that patients have a protein meal prior to their appointment time.

Are services covered by insurance?
The clinic is a private health clinic. Our services are not covered under the Canadian Medical Services Plan (MSP).
With exception of $23 reimbursement for BC residents who qualify for MSP premium assistance (ie combined household income of $28,000 or less). If this applies to you, request form HLTH 1916 to be completed by our office for your submission to MSP.
Some extended health plans may cover the portion of your invoice listed under ‘Acupuncture’. Check your coverage with your insurer.
What is the cost for treatment?
Every patient is unique; treatment is customized to the requirements of the condition, and services and associated fees may vary. We can assist with an estimate after we have assessed and know more what may be involved to assist you.
